Update, with pics

Not much going on lately. Saw Glenn Schwartx again at Hoopple's on Thursday night. Vinnie stopped by after an ugly bust out at eRock's cash game. Glenn sounded pretty good, and didnt do much in the way of preaching. I almost felt swindled.

Had an old-fashioned Hungarian bacon roast at my dad/grandfather's place on Saturday night. You roast the slabs of bacon over an open fire, dripping the hot grease onto the rye bread, which is covered with tomato, hot peppers, onion, slat/pepper, and paprika. A cardiovascular dream come true. I had 5-6 slices.

Sat around with the old timers and listened to some great stories. Gramps even had an extra beer (in addition to his daily normal 2 beers/2 shots of bourbon) and talked about old times...growing up during the Depression, his first car ('34 Plymouth), and his parents coming over from Hungary, and places they lived in the area. He'll be 95 in a few months.

Stuffed some fresh-picked peppers over the weekend too. Good stuff.

Took the dog swimming on Sunday, then had to give her a bath. She was drinking water out of the stream and got sicker than hell for a couple days. The most horrible dog gas you've ever smelled.

Wednesday, hit the Tradesman for a few hours to hang with Jasone, who may be coming back to Cleve-town for good after his company folded in Cinci. Cleveland poker will get back one of its favorite sons. I'll have to get a 2nd job so I can play again. Anyway, we pounded a few and had some grub, but I had to take off early. Jasone did have a great story about bitch-slapping some dude. Twice. Hilarious. Make sure he tells you if you run into him.

Book review

Go buy this book. It's really good. If you like RPS.

Weekend of 7/18

Picked up my iPhone after work. Review to follow. Went to see The Dark Knight at the drive-in on Friday night. Pretty good movie. Certainly the best Batman ever. The Joker was freakin great.

Didn't do much most of the day Saturday. Set up my iPhone. Went fishing with my brother at the Club after dark and the rain died down. Not even a nibble. Snapped a pic of a huge bullfrog. We were just packing up our stuff and walking to John's car when it began to pour again.

Sunday, the weather was great so me and Alesha went out for a bike ride. Clocked almost 20 miles. Took the Black River Reservation trail from Bur Oak into Lorain past the steel mill. The new trail is pretty nice and ends on Colorado Ave. Took some pics with the new phone. Pretty impressive for a phone camera.

CPMG B-day party canceled

With RSVP's down to 5 people, it appears we have to cancel the CPMG party. We failed to hype it up over the last couple weeks, and it wasn't a tournament, so people began to back out, especially with a tourney scheduled the same night.

Maybe we'll try for late August/early September. Oh well, I'm gonna go out there to fish anyway.

Send Karl Rove to jail

If anyone ever deserved to be in jail, it's this fucking guy. He and the president have done nothing but shit on the constitution since day 1.

Check the "subscribe to" links to the right and subscribe to my blog. I think it'll push each new post or comment to your inbox, like any other RSS feed.

I've also added a non-poker links section. Check out some of my favorite websites.

Pics from TK's BBJ tourney

Enjoy...

Update!

Despite a shitty weekend, (details at a later date) the week is turning out OK, but I'm still busy as hell at work. 4 or 5 overlapping projects, several problem issues, etc. Sucks.

Trying to get organized for the CPMG party this weekend. Still only a handful are attending, but hopefully we'll have a decent time. There are some new grills installed at the front shelter area, so I'll pick up some charcoal for that. I'm just bringing hot dogs, and making a pasta salad.

iPhone

I stopped by the Elyria AT&T store to pick up the new iPhone this morning, and the line was about 60 deep. I got there around 8:10. The store opened at 8. 10 minutes later, the manager comes out to tell everyone they were sold out. WTF? They sold like 20 of them. They didnt expect to sell more??

So I went to the North Olmsted store and the line was much shorter, but they sold out just as I walked up. I paid for mine and put in the order. It will be here Tues or Wed next week. It is quite a bit slimmer than the original, which I'm glad I held off buying. My Treo still rocks, but I'm having problems with the sound (which I can fix for $12) and I'm just ready to upgrade. I had the Treo for 3 years. It'll be cool to watch movies on my phone. I already converted some stand-up comedy (Brian Regan) to MP4 to view on it.

Creepy crawlies

Check out the size of this freaking spider I found on my driveway.

I actually had one of these (about half this size) floating on top of my beer in a cup I was drinking out of while building a bonfire in the backyard. I could see something in the cup as I took a drink, then shined my flashlight in and...AAAGGHHHH!!! Freaked me out.

It could be worse. Click here

4th of July weekend

Thurs night:

Being me and Alesha's anniversary, we went out for dinner in Little Italy and La Dolce Vita. Food was decent but the place was a bit grubby IMO. Made it back to Elyria just in time to see their fireworks. We just parked and watched them in the car.

Friday the 4th:

Loaded our bikes on the car and drove to the west side of Lakewood, then biked into Cleveland to see the fireworks there. We stopped for some food at Aladdin's, and rode around for a while. We had a great spot at Edgewater, but later discovered the location had moved a few years ago, and we were about a mile away from them, but could still see them just fine. We just didnt get the full effect of the loud booms.

Getting back to the car was pretty cool. We were moving faster than the vehicle traffic and I was really into weaving in/out of traffic. We saw a fight break out on the street but the drama quickly subsided.

Saturday:

Drove down to visit Alesha's sisters. One lives about an hour east of Columbus, the other is in Columbus, so we did some driving. Just kinda hung out with them. Went swimming in Michelle's pool, sat in the sauna, and went to dinner at Mongolian BBQ. Got home after midnight.

Sunday:

Got up later than we should have, and hustled to get to Slack's family retreat in Marblehead for boating/fishing. (more to come, including pics...have some stuff to deal with at work)

OK, I'm back...so we picked up some munchies and a 6-pack of Edmund Fitzgerald (apropos, I thought) and pulled into Chez Tomon about 10 min late. We climbed aboard and headed out toward Cedar Point and slowed to a stop among a bunch of boats, where we assumed the fish would be. I had just mentioned putting up some $$ for a wager on the first fish when I got one on the line. Snagged an average size white bass. Got a much smalled one later on too, and I was the ONLY one to land a fish.

We docked at a restaurant (forget the name, it was that memorable) for a late lunch. The food was decent but it came out in increments. My baked potato didnt get there until we were on dessert. The waiter seemed a little baked himself.

After that it was back to Tomon's dock, and we headed home shortly after that. I crashed out about 8 pm.

Many thanks to Slacks on a great time.
